The delegation of Jimei University recently visited Vladivostok with company of YGL, and had a meeting at the Maritime State University named after admiral G.I. Nevelskoy on November 17th. The delegation consists of the Director of International Cooperation and Exchange Department, Vice Director of Academic Affairs, and deans of the School of Navigation, School of Marine Engineering and School of Ocean Information Engineering.
Jimei University is Fujian Provincial double-class university, with well-developed academic tradition and characterized disciplines in maritime engineering and ocean sciences. They also actively participated in the Belt-Rd Cooperation, BRICS collaboration and China-ASEAN cooperation.
Maritime State University named after admiral G.I. Nevelskoy, which belongs to the Federal Ministry of Transport, is the first university in Russia to train specialists in the fields of navigation technology, shipping, maritime law, and is now the largest maritime education institution in the Russian Federation, having cultivated numerous of outstanding talents and maritime experts. It has deeply influenced and vigorously promoted the process of Russian maritime education theory, science and technology, also contributed to the culture and education and social development.
The two sides have common interests in cooperation and complementary advantages in disciplines. Early in 2007, two universities signed a protocol of mutual interest of cooperation in academic and research fields. YGL facilitated this visit, which is the first off-line communication between two sides.
On the meeting both universities introduced about their university, on history, organization, and academic development respectively. Specially, three deans from Jimei University gave very thorough illustration of the disciplines and research direction of each school. Both sides then had deep discussion for different aspects of an overall strategic cooperation plan between two universities, including joint education, joint research, exchange of students and teachers, students training and internship, cultivation of industry personnel, etc. Both sides has reached the agreement of jointly establishing the Sino-Foreign joint institute. Other exchange will be initiated in parallel, which will start from exchange of students from next semester.
After the meeting the Jimei delegation visited the Far Eastern Maritime Training Center of MSUN. The FEMTC was inaugurate by President Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin in 2021, and is currently the biggest and high-tech maritime training center of Russia Federation. It serves not only for the education purpose, but also provides training for thousands of expertise and mariners which serves at the national and global shipping and logistic companies in Russia. The training center provided most cutting-edge technology to provide a systematic, interacted, and simulated training environment for the students and trainees. The Jimei delegation was greatly impressed by the technologies used and how different projects are coordinated in order to create a real-life working environment. They wish to conduct more cooperative projects with the FEMTC in research and training.
On November 16th, one day before the visit, vice president of Jimei University and vice rector of Maritime State University named after admiral G.I. Nevelskoy (online) signed the MoU on the 2023 BRICS Forum on Partnership on New Industrial Revolution. The signing of the document is the milestone of the partnership, which will lead to more fruitful future.
