On September 12, 2021, the opening ceremony of the International Digital Economy College was successfully held in Minjiang University. The Cyprus Ambassador to China, H.E. Antonis Toumazis, and the Chinese Ambassador to Cyprus, H.E. Liu Yantao attended the opening ceremony via Internet and delivered speech. Besides, the principals of Minjiang University and European University Cpyrus, the related program leaders and colleges directors, as well as the faculty and freshmen representatives of the International Digital Economy College attended the ceremony. Mr. Liu Jiting, special advisor to the president of the European University Cyprus, attended and co-chaired the ceremony with Lin Zhongyan, Dean of the International Digital Economy College.

Ambassador Antonis Toumazis said that the International Digital Economy College demonstrated the friendly exchanges between China and Cyprus. He also hoped both countries would continue to strengthen cooperation based on their own advantages. Ambassador Liu Yantao mentioned that this year marked the 50th anniversary of China and Cyprus establishing diplomatic relationship, and the International Digital Economy College, a milestone in China-Cyprus education cooperation, would set a good example for other universities of both countries.

Presidents of both universities also delivered their speeches, pointing out the International Digital Economy College represented the joint efforts, and the start of the deep, all-round cooperation of both sides. Two universities have developed a stable and innovative curriculum system that combined advantages to meet the needs of different students. Meanwhile, both presidents hoped the students would make full use of the high-quality resources and study hard to make their own contribution to the progress of Fuzhou's digital economy, and to pursue their own career and life.

International Digital Economy College, Minjiang University is a Sino-foreign joint educational institution without independent legal statues, co-organized by Minjiang University and European University Cyprus and approved by Ministry of Education, China. It adopts the development mode of "4+0", featuring the students will stay in Minjiang University for 4 years, and meanwhile get registered and have access to quality educational resources of both universities. Those who meet graduation and degree grant requirements of both universities will have the graduation certificate and Bachelor degree of Minjiang University, as well as the Bachelor degree of related program of European University Cyprus.
