On March 3rd, 2022, The China-Cyprus Digital Economy Summit Forum with the theme of "The Digital Transformation: Connecting Best Practices of Minjiang University & European University Cyprus". Deputy Minister of Research, Innovation and Digital Policy of Cyprus, Chinese ambassador to Cyprus and scholars and experts from both sides participated in the event.

This summit is co-hosted by European University Cyprus and Minjiang University, aiming at exchange the experience and inspirations based on the teaching and research activities in International Digital Economy College jointly established by the two universities, and to explore the new possibilities in talent cultivation and facing the challenges in the trend of the digital transformation.

Mr. Kyriacos Kokkinos, Deputy Minister of Research, Innovation and Digital Policy of Cyprus and Professor CHEN Jin, Deputy Director of Higher Education Teaching Steering Committee of E-commerce, Ministry of Education of China, presented keynote speeches to the forum.

Deputy Minister Kokkinos talked about how the pandemic has brought fast development of digital technologies, and also bringing revolution in education fields. He pointed out the universities should undertake the task of developing new technologies and providing support to the growth of the society as well as the industry. In the meanwhile, universities are also supply tank for the market, cultivating active citizens with critical thinking, democracy, and sense of responsibility toward the society.

Chinese ambassador to Cyprus Mr Liu Yantao participated the forum and delivered his greeting. He mentioned we are living in a digital world, taking the example of Beijing Winter Olympic Games to illustrate how digital technology has changed our lives. The ambassador also talked about the Digital Silk Road under construction, which aims at a greener, healthier global digital environment.

In the forum, researchers from both EUC and Minjiang universities exchange their experience and achievement from their respective fields of computer science and engineering, electrical and electronic informatics, graphic design and marketing and digital communication.

The forum was successfully completed with a closing speech from former rector of European University Cyprus, Professor Kostas Gouliamos.
