On September 29, 2023, Prof. Dionysios Mantzavinos, Vice Rector for Academic and International Affairs of the University of Patras, visited China with a delegation from Greece. They made a special visit to the executive center of the Chinese Research Institute of the University of Patras and was invited to the awarding ceremony.

Founded in 1964, the University of Patras ranked 3rd in the list of Greek universities for its unique strengths on research and teaching in all cross-disciplinary fields. The university owns 7 schools, including School of Agricultural Sciences, School of Economics and Business, School of Engineering, School of Health Rehabilitation Sciences, School of Health Sciences, School of Humanities and Social Sciences and School of Natural Sciences; 161 laboratories and 17 well-equipped clinics. At present, the university has 34,000 on-campus students and 1,500 faculties and administrative staff.

In addition to its outstanding achievements in education, the University of Patras also has many fruits in basic and applied research. With nearly 1,600 researchers, the university has opened a wide range of research in the fields of environment, health, biotechnology, mechanics, electronics, informatics and basic sciences. Based on the international assessments, several departments, laboratories and clinics in the university have been recognized as Centers of Excellence. Meanwhile, the Joint-PhD Promotion Programs have been carried out with more than 10 high-level universities in many countries. The Greek government and the European Union had set up a €23.7 million research fund for the university, which has sponsored over 2,700 research projects. The amount of its academic research theses per year is among the highest in Greek universities.

The University of Patras has maintained good interaction and cooperation with Chinese universities and institutions for a long time. Since the 1990s, the university and Xi'an Jiaotong University have cooperated in the scientific research and jointly undertaken national funded research projects.

In addition, it also launched cooperation with Tongji University, Southwest University and other Chinese universities in the research on literature, history and philosophy, especially on the civilization of China and Greece, and set up joint master program of 'Comparison of Civilizations between China and Greece.' The project aims at integrating the high-quality educational resources and advanced talent cultivation plans between China and Greece and providing international high-level innovative talents in liberal arts with international vision and global competence needed for jointly building the 'Belt and Road Initiative' and a community of shared future for mankind.

The University of Patras has also participated in the establishment of the China-Greece Research Center of Ancient Civilizations initiated by the Southwest University. The Chinese Research Institute of University of Patras was set up to strengthen the cooperation between China and Greece in education and academia. At present, the doctoral programs in PhD of Management Sciences is in progress, as well as the construction of the Research Achievements Transfer Center, and the Center for Education and Training.
