On the morning of April 7th, Nanjing University of Posts and Telecommunications (NJUPT) hosted a delegation from the European University Cyprus (EUC) for an exchange meeting. The delegation included Professor Kostas Gouliamos, former Rector of EUC and recipient of the Chinese Government Friendship Award; Professor Panagiotis Papageorgis, Dean of the School of Sciences; along with Mr. Liu Jiting, Assistant to the Rector and President of YGL, and Ms. Luo Yinglu, Director of the EUC China Office, both representing Beijing Yinggeli Educational Technology Co., Ltd. (YGL). The meeting took place at NJUPT’s Xianlin Campus, with Professor Ye Meilan, President of NJUPT, and Professor Liu Qingshan, Vice President and Member of the NJUPT Standing CPC Council, attended and addressed the gathering. The session was chaired by Ms. Wang Haiyan, Director of the Office of International Cooperation and Exchange.
Professor Ye Meilan extended a warm welcome to the delegation. She stated that this visit signifies the continuation and elevation of the fruitful cooperation between the two universities, highlighting their high complementarity in disciplinary strengths and talent cultivation. She expressed great expectations for the upcoming joint laboratory, describing it as “not merely the establishment of a physical space, but a platform for technological innovation and cultural exchange.”

In response, Professor Kostas Gouliamos noted the special historical significance of deepening collaboration during the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and the European Union. He commended NJUPT’s outstanding achievements in information technology and expressed hope to elevate the partnership to new heights within the framework of Belt and Road educational cooperation.
The thematic discussion that followed yielded multiple points of consensus. Professor Liu Qingshan emphasized that medical-engineering integration represents a crucial opportunity aligned with national strategies and the university's development. Professor Panagiotis Papageorgis added from a global perspective, believing that combining NJUPT’s engineering strengths with EUC’s medical expertise would yield a powerful synergy.
Following the meeting, Professor Ye Meilan and Professor Kostas Gouliamos jointly inaugurated the “International Joint Laboratory on Medical Engineering.” Pooled top resources from both institutions, this platform will break down technical barriers, focus on cutting-edge research in the interdisciplinary field, and establish a long-term mechanism for joint postgraduate training.

Representatives from relevant departments and schools of NJUPT, including the Office of International Cooperation and Exchange, the Department of Science and Technology, the School of Computer Science, and the School of Chemistry and Life Sciences, attended the meeting and witnessed the inauguration ceremony.
